Facebook Video Downloader

Facebook Video Downloader

Paste a public Facebook link to download a Reel or video as a playable MP4. The HD rendition is used where Facebook published one, and VP9 sources are converted so the result plays on a phone as well as in a browser.

How to download

Four steps, no account, no install.

  1. Copy the Facebook linkReels, page videos and the watch permalink all work, as do the fb.watch, fb.com and fb.me short links shared from the app. Short links are expanded for you.
  2. Paste it into the box aboveFacebook is detected from the link. The canonical reel URL is used, so a mobile or locale subdomain resolves the same way as the desktop one.
  3. Analyze to see the renditionsFacebook usually publishes an HD and a standard version. We take the best one that exists rather than listing both.
  4. Download, and allow extra timeFacebook serves VP9, which plays in a browser but not in QuickTime or on older phones. We convert it to H.264 so the file opens everywhere, and that conversion is real work — longer Reels take noticeably longer here than elsewhere.

Links that work

These are the link shapes this downloader recognises.

  • facebook.com/reel/123456789A Reel.
  • facebook.com/reels/123456789The plural form, which the mobile app hands out.
  • facebook.com/page/videos/123456789A video on a Page.
  • facebook.com/watch/?v=123456789The watch permalink.
  • fb.watch/… , fb.com/… , fb.me/…Short links shared from the app, expanded for you.

Formats and quality

What you actually get on this platform.

HD where Facebook published it

Facebook publishes an HD and a standard rendition for most Reels. We take the HD one when it exists and fall back to the standard copy when it does not.

H.264 MP4

Facebook serves VP9 on its CDN, which plays in a browser but not reliably in QuickTime or on older phones. We convert those to H.264 so the file opens everywhere.

Slower than the other platforms

That conversion is a real re-encode, so a longer Facebook Reel takes meaningfully longer to prepare than a TikTok or YouTube one.

On a phone, tablet or desktop

It runs in your browser

There is nothing to install and no app to keep up to date. The same page works on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux, and the interface is built to work with a thumb as well as a mouse.

Paste works like paste should

On a phone, tap into the box and use the paste control to bring in the link you copied from the app. If the clipboard permission is declined, pasting normally with your keyboard works just as well.

Larger downloads are worth a desktop

The file is prepared on the server and then streamed to you, so download time is mostly your connection. A long video is more comfortable on a laptop, and keeping the tab open until the download finishes matters on any device.

What will not work

Better to know these up front than to find out halfway through.

  • Public Reels and videos only. Anything restricted to friends, or in a private group, cannot be read.
  • The conversion step means long Reels take a while. Very long videos can exceed the size limit once encoded.
  • Videos from pages you must be logged in to see are not available.
  • Live video is not downloadable while it is running.

Common problems

What the usual failures mean, and whether they are worth retrying.

This one takes noticeably longer

Why
Facebook serves VP9 video, which has to be converted to H.264 for the file to play outside a browser. A re-encode takes real time.
What to do
Let it run. Very long Reels can exceed the size limit once encoded.

It says the content is not available

Why
Friends-only posts, private groups and login-gated pages cannot be read. Nor can a Live video that is still running.
What to do
Open the post in a signed-out window. If it needs a login, it will not download here.

There is no HD option

Why
Not every Reel has an HD rendition published. The standard copy is all that exists for that post.
What to do
Take what is offered — it is the best version Facebook published.

Common questions

Yes. Facebook Reels and ordinary page videos go through the same process — paste the link and the available rendition is listed. The difference is only that public Reels are the most common thing people try here.

Using this downloader responsibly

Download Facebook videos you own or have permission to save. Facebook creators and page owners can request removal through our contact page, and those requests are actioned.

Short Video Saver only reads content that is already publicly accessible. We do not bypass logins, paywalls, age gates or any other access control, and we remove media belonging to people who ask us to. See the privacy policy for what we log, which is platform and success or failure only.

The same downloader handles every supported platform.
